Are you happy with where all the characters ended, such as how Werner died, the disappearance of Marie-Laure's father, and the escape of Marie-Laure?

I am both happy and sad about the way all the characters ended up. I am kind of upset about the fact that so many characters died or disappeared but at the same time I feel the author did a good job in capturing the reality of the war. The reality was that millions of people died and many more lost their loved ones. I think that Marie-Laure was just one of those lucky souls that lived to see the end of the war. Of course it wasn't plain luck. Marie-Laure was really smart and could deal with all the pain she's been through. I am really happy with her ending. I am also fairly happy with Werner's ending though it was really sad. I didn't want him to die but that was the reality. Werner was German and after the war they were imprisoned and death was common. Even though many of the character's endings weren't as satisfying or how I hoped they would be, the author made it really realistic and I'm happy with that.

I am in the same boat as Roselyn, I am both happy and sad about how the characters end up. It's not a Disney movie; it's a book about WWII, of course there's not going to be a happy ending. One way or another Werner was most likely going to end up dead. Of course we all wish Werner could have lived he had a short death which is better than having him suffer any longer. Marie-Laure was lucky to end up alive, especially since she was blind and had lost so many loved ones, it had to have been very hard on her emotionally but also mentally. The author had a realistic way of summing up the novel, including where the characters end up.
