Rudy was a very important character in Liesel's life because he showed her who she really was. How would've things turned out differently for Liesel if she had never met Rudy?

If she'd never met Rudy, she probably wouldn't have developed into the person she became on Himmel st. With Rudy, she became a thief, a great soccer player, and in rudy, she found a great friend, even if he wasn't exactly a saint and constantly pestered her for kisses. Only in death, unfortunately. Without Rudy, she wouldn't have become a regular thief, so probably wouldn't have all the books she had. Rudy was part of her, in some ways

After Max had left and Liesel's father had gone to war, Rudy was one person that was still there for her. He helped her throughout the novel, whether it be from jumping in the river to get her book, to stopping her from causing chaos trying to find Max in the crowd of jews. Like Tuli said, he helped her develop and change into the person she was at the end of the book. Without Rudy, Liesel would not had the confidence or encouragement that Rudy gave her. She might not have even stolen as many books as she did without his help.

Through Rudy's actions of help and care, I think that he showed Liesel that there was still kindness in the messed-up war times they were living in. He was someone who loved and cared about her, and whenever people left her, he was always there. If she never met Rudy, she might not have ever had a true friend. He helped through the hard times, and without him, she wouldn't be the same book-thieving girl she ended up as. The two kids bonded a lot throughout the book, from being stuck in the air-raid shelters at night to almost getting caught while stealing apples at the farm. Liesel and Rudy made each other stronger, and without him, the book would not have been the same.

Rudy became part of Liesel's family and acted as a big brother for Liesel. After Liesel discovered her love for reading, Rudy was there to help her get books. The pair went though so many adventures that created a tight bond between the two. Liesel gained her confidence with Rudy's help. Without him, she wouldn't have faced the world with the same level of confidence. Rudy was a consistent source of support for Liesel. Without Rudy by her side, Liesel may have never discovered all the stories she did.

Rudy was Liesel's anchor throughout the novel. He was always there to pick her up and watch her back, even when she felt she didn't need him. Throughout the novel Rudy and Liesel develop individually as characters but they also play major roles in developing each other. Rudy developed Liesel into not only a thief and soccer player but also into a confident young lady. As for Liesel she developed Rudy into a caring , mature, loving young man. Through each other they grow and learn. If Liesel was to never meet Rudy her life would be very different. She would not have ever developed into the girl she was at the end of the novel. The two characters created an unbreakable bond of true friendship. Without Rudy, Liesel would have been alone and would have never discovered and grown like she did with Rudy by her side. Not only that but Liesel would have never would of survived the loss of Max without Rudy's unknown constant support on the situation. In the end Liesel would not be Liesel without the love and friendship of Rudy Stiener.
