In the Book Thief, Max paints over Hitler's propaganda book Mein Kampf and creates a new story over it. Do you think this is important/symbolises anything? If not, why?

I think that this symbolizes Max making his own impact on the world, as opposed to being another Jew oppressed by the German people. It also symbolizes his affect on Liesel. Before he created the book, he was a friend of Liesel's, but he did not have a major impact on her life as a person. When he wrote the words over Hitler's he is creating his own influence on Liesel, when before she only had her foster parents and the German people.

Max showed resistance by painting over Hitler's book. Max used his book to demonstrate the power of words. He also gave the book a new meaning, like a second chance. Max's book gave Liesel a new perspective to look at life from. His book showed her the power of words and the difference she can make by using her voice. Max's book symbolized the strength words have by writing a story around the effect of them.
