Hans Hubberman, was given "one of the most undesirable positions on the home front" as his service for the German military--he was assigned to the LSE. Hans was to remain at air raid sites, rescue survivors, right falling structures, and clean up dead bodies. Reinhold Zucker, a member of Hans's unit, says that for the LSE, "the enemy isn't over the hill or in any specific direction. It's all around." (Zusak 432) What is the enemy and why/how does it surround them?
