Before Werner dies by stepping on the mine, a security guard yells for him. Do you think the guard yelled at him because he was trying to escape, or was he yelling to warn Werner about the land mine that he was about to step on?

Honestly, either choice is equally plausible, but most likely it was a combination of the both. It is the guard's job to prevent people from escaping, but the fact that he did not run after Werner shows that he knew that the mine was there. We are not given any information about the Security guard so each choice is equally possible.

I think it makes more sense for the soldier to be calling out a warning to Werner, because the people in the camp are trying to keep him alive, as is obvious by the fact that they are taking car of him while he is sick, so they have no desire for him to die.

As he was a guard, it is more likely he was yelling to Werner because he was trying to escape. If it had been another member of the camp such as a doctor or just a passing off duty soldier, it would have been more believable that they were warning of the land mines.

The guard had a job to keep people from escaping and going back to the enemy. But i feel that it was more of a surprised shout out at him. Like if you saw someone about to walk of a pier that you owned. You would shout at them "hey stop!" but you wouldn't run after them.

I believe the guard was trying to tell Werner to stop not because he thought Werner was escaping but because he knew there was a land mine. Werner was sent to a 'hospital' and obviously was sent there to get better. They might have used the sick people later to help their own forces, and Werner going and setting off a land mine could kill many of the sick. I agree with Hannah, they were there to treat the sick so they obviously wouldn't want them to die.
