As I read the Book Thief, I realized that the author does not identify Death's gender, however, I believe that most of us assume that Death is male. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it was a deliberate choice by the author?

I do not believe that the author deliberately chose Death's gender, however, I think that because of the sexism that leads us to where we are today, most people label this specific character male because to some, Death seems more "masculine." But, if there were to be an Angel with an unnamed gender, most of us would decipher it as a female.
