One of the Frenchman's broadcasts that Werner and Jutta receive from their radio in the children's home plays the line, "Open your eyes, concludes the man, and see what you can with them before they close forever." Doerr (48-49). This quote is brought back up several times throughout the book and there is even a chapter titled, Open Your Eyes. Does this chapter relate to the quote? How does the quote relate to and or symbolize the overall message and plot of the story? Does it influence Werner and Jutta's actions at all after they hear it?

i think that the quote and the chapter are related. this can symbolize the overall message of the book, relating to the title too. "open your eyes" means see the meaning of the things you see. I thinks that when they were young it affected the kids because the werner opened himself up for greatness with that radio. But as they got older they forgot about it and only saw what was right in front of them.
