Throughout the boom, Max was often referred to as "the jew", commonly following his name. During the time of the Holocaust, there was a lot of hate, most of it focused on Jewish people. Why do you think that this name stuck with Max? What fo you think the point of the author constantly reminding us of this label that Mac had was? And finally, who do you think Max was to Death? Just a jew, or perhaps there is underlying meaning?

I think that this label stuck with him and people said that because it was the way they thought. Jews were different so you had to clarify that they were Jew. I think that the author was constantly reminding us he was Jew to make it seem real, that was how they though of him, on purpose or not. I don't think that death was racist or just a Jew. but in this story max is just that, part of the story. but I do think that death cared about all the people he carried away

The author decided to call Max "the Jew" to better show to the reader the blatant racism present even in the way many spoke. By calling Max "the Jew" its changing him from a person to an object, changing how he needs to be treated. He no longer needs to be treated as human, as he's just "the Jew", essentially condoning the treatment of Jewish people at the time. This displays how despite many peoples best efforts to treat Jewish people correctly, this prejudice has seeped into their language itself.
