Words and their influence are a clear theme throughout the book and their actual description is often personified. For example, "The book thief saw only the mechanics of the words- their bodies stranded on the paper, beaten down for her to walk on." (381). This kind of description of words is repeated often throughout the book in many seemingly unrelated scenarios. Why do you think Zusak chose to use this type of description? Does it correspond with the theme or message of the book?
