Throughout the book the reader can discover many areas in which the books are similar. Not only do the books share little details they also share some deeper themes. In the novel it states, "The bony figure of Death rides the streets below, stopping his mount now and then to peer into windows.... a list newly charged with addresses" (Doerr 333). Within this situation the similarity found within the books is the figure of death itself. In the novel it also says, "Russia collapses like an accordion" (Doerr 262). Both the books used the accordion in different forms of figurative language to deepen the strength of the understanding the reader has of the novels. In what other ways are the the two novels similar? How are they different?

You can draw many parallels between the two books. The novels are both set during World War 2 and feature a boy/girl duo. Whether it's best friends like Liesel and Rudy or complete strangers until the end such as Marie-Laure and Werner or Marie-Laure and her father, or even in the beginning of ATLWCS with Werner and Jutta by his side. Both books draw a scenario with a boy/girl pair and tell the story through their lives.
