On page 59 the author writes about how conflicted Rudy's father, Alex, is on the political matters at hand. In this day and age, we rely on television, social media, and the internet to hear about daily news and events. Back then, it was very easy to be unaware of the atrocities that were happening to the Jews, because average German citizens were not seeing what they were going through on a daily basis. But Alex, as well as many other Germans thought what was hapening to the Jews was wrong, but they could not do anything about it. On one hand, he was trying to keep his buisness afloat, and the Jews were compitition, but on the other he knew they should not be treated like they were.
