Throughout the novel, Liesel makes many mistakes, as does everyone. Whether it be acts of blind hatred or defiance, there are many events that Liesel could have changed in order for her to feel less agony when everything she loves is taken from her at the end. What do you think Liesel could have done differently? Was there any way for her to avoid losing everybody? What do you think Liesel regrets the most?

Liesel didn't have many good options as a young girl living on the brink of Nazi Germany to the fall of Nazi Germany. The only other main thing she could have done was to run away from the foster home. Now some might argue that that is even worse of an idea than most things that she does during the story. But running away is a natural response to go find her birth mother. The story would have taken a drastic turn of events at that moment and could have gone in many other directions. For the most part Liesel did everything she could to keep herself happy in the novel.
