Although not as extreme as Werner's, Jutta's recollection of the war would have been very negative and nasty. In the sort of epilogue at the end, she tries to keep everything under wrap, but she can't help but want to find out what connection she had to a woman in France. After the war, she made very little effort to pursue what happened to her friends, Werner, and Werner's friends from the war. Do you think this would have been a different case had Werner come home? Do you think Werner would have catalyzed an interest in the war by sharing his stories and experiences, or would he have also kept it under wraps and reinforced Jutta's opinion on the matter?
